Not Tuna is a tribute band dedicated to the music of Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady.
Not Tuna performs their classic songs with an electric and acoustic mix, then adds a few originals and deep track gems.
The band was formed in 2019 by guitarist and singer Mike Boni and bassist and singer Danny Gold. Mike has frequently studied guitar with Jorma, is the lead guitarist for So. Central Rain (a REM tribute), and was formerly with Philly mainstays the Icons and Weight of the World. Danny is the bassist for Broken Arrow (a Neil Young tribute), the legendary Dukes of Destiny, and Philly’s longtime favorite western swing band Beats Walkin’.
Mike and Danny both share a love of the music of Hot Tuna and have been integral parts of the Philadelphia music scene for over 4 decades.
One evening in 2022, they invited 8-time Grammy award winning drummer and producer Andy Kravitz, who records and performs with the legendary Taj Mahal, to jump up on stage and jam with them. Sparks flew, and Not Tuna was complete!
