Last weekend we shook things up and headed into Phoenixville for a little night out. Totally different for us, but stick with me. A friend recently told me she’s signed up for an improv class this fall. Improv! I was impressed. That is wayyy outside my comfort zone. Meanwhile, I’m over here gearing up for mahjong, brushing up on bridge, and plotting my next hobby at MainLinePurl (knitting needles, here I come). September is my personal “back to school” month—I always try to embark on something new.
So when an email popped into my inbox about Better Than Bacon, a local improv troupe performing at The Colonial, it felt like serendipity. (Don’t you just love Serendipity!) I texted my friend: “Let’s go!” I’d only seen improv once before in NYC, and the only thing I really remembered was the whole “Yes, and…” bit.
Friday night we made it a date—grabbed dinner at IG (if you know, you know) and strolled over to the theater. Ninety minutes later, we walked out grinning ear to ear. We laughed, we clapped, and I left with a whole new respect for improv (and the brave souls who do it!).
We are so lucky to have such an incredible lineup of live performances right here in our backyard. I, for one, plan to say “Yes, and…” to a whole lot more of them.
Enjoy!

That was a short story. I was expecting to hear something about the show or the improv class.
