Hi Neighbor!
I just returned from my own version of Eat, Pray, Love, and while I did eat, pray, and love, the title of my tome is better scripted as Eat, Drink, Write , except we didn’t do much writing, even though that was the focal point of the trip. Instead, we toured and toured and toured. Along the way, we talked and talked and talked. Life experiences were shared while topics and titles were suggested for one another on future writing projects. It was cathartic.
Eat, Drink, Write began with a whirlwind stay in Siracusa, Italy, where we were quickly immersed in the culture starting with an historical lecture (Sicily was the center of European commerce for centuries, until “someone” set sail in 1492 to discover new land…fascinating!); sightseeing of catacombs, cathedrals, and miracles; pasta making, wine tasting, attending a concerto and a live nativity scene to close out the Christmas season. A few days were interspersed with writing workshops lead by an American author living in Brussels, authenticating the title of my trip.
We didn’t end there. Generating ideas for future writing continued on a bus followed by a ferry ride to Calabria where we continued to eat and drink (think more pasta and fine wine!) our way through this beautiful country. Truth be told, some actual pen to paper took place during down time on the bus as we made our way to the final destination, Napoli, famous for its cameos and…inventing PIZZA in its modern form. Yum! Artwork, archeological sites, and gelato consumed us as we soaked up our remaining days on the mainland. The journey ended with a farewell pizza dinner, naturally, a toast to our gracious, patient guide, and final thoughts jotted hurriedly in our notebooks lest we forget too soon.
While I am far from completing Eat, Drink, Write 😊 , I thoroughly enjoyed gathering the “data” with so many talented, like-minded writers. The topping on the pizza, though, is when writers get together; we inspire one another to write. The eating and drinking along the way only enhances the flow of creative juices.
Feeling inspired,
Jackie
Cyclone Harry just went through some of Sicily and Calabria. I’m glad it didn’t end up being a topic for your writing.
Sound like a fun trip. Happy writing. Italy and its food certainly inspires.
