Hi Neighbor!
You have heard it before, and I am here to tell you again: Sundays are for the Birds! As in our Birds, the Super Bowl LIX Champs, the team that brought the Lombardi Trophy back to Broad Street, the team that united the Greater Philadelphia area and beyond, making us bleed green on Sundays. Oh, and the occasional Monday or Thursday, depending on actual game day. But you get it. We love our Eagles.
It never occurred to me how fanatical our town is until an old friend came to visit who is not as passionate about Jalen and Saquon and Lane as I am. I remember the day clearly, as I am sure you do too, Fanatical Fan. Rams game, September 21, Jordan Davis blocks a field goal, picks the football up and runs 18 miles per hour to score the game winning touchdown. Yeah, I knew you would remember.
I met my friend at a local watering hole after the game, and everyone was still in a celebratory mood. After about twenty minutes of random strangers gushing over the final moments of the game, my friend looked at me and said, Does everyone always wear green? Fair question, but yes, we live and die by all shades of green from the nostalgic Kelly to the modern day midnight. We cannot help ourselves. It is our normal game day attire.
I told my friend we would be wearing green well into next weekend, possibly the same shirt, unwashed just to keep the good juju going like Robert DeNiro’s superstitious character in Silver Linings Playbook. Don’t mess with the order of his remotes! I also mentioned the fact that I wear an Eagles shirt even when I watch the game at home alone. My neighbors do too because I see them come out of their homes to walk their dogs after the game donned in similar attire, shaking heads in unified disbelief at the nail biter we just witnessed.
Don’t even get me started on our fan base on the road. Look at the stands when the Birds travel; a sea of green flows throughout enemy territory, and I love every last jersey-wearing fan for representing.
Say what you want about our snowball throwing crowd, but we support, we represent, and, mostly, we unite over our passion for all things Eagles.
Go Birds!
Jackie
