Hi Neighbor!
It’s that time of year when kids are being dropped off at college, and it always feels bittersweet. Excitement bubbles as you watch your kids take their next big step, but a tinge of sadness lingers, knowing things will never be quite the same.
I remember dropping both of my kids off for their freshman year. I wrote about the first time we became empty-nesters here. It feels like eons ago now. My son is now off to his second year at law school and my daughter lives and works in Philly. I appreciate that every transition, every moment, is fleeting.
I love the time we spend together, everyone is home and our house is full of loud music I normally don’t listen to, shrieks from playing video games coming from my son’s room, piles of laundry, the daily question, “What’s for dinner?”, a random hug, the latest TikTok, friends popping in, and lots of laughter.
And I appreciate the time they are away when the house is quiet and peaceful. I can eat cereal for dinner. The charger is where I left it. I control the aux cord, and I have more time for me.
I cherish the raucous moments with them at home and relish the quiet solitude when they’re away, now finding joy in both.

Love this Regina! I’m still in the middle of high school & college… trying to enjoy every moment. Just dropped Kieran off at the airport yesterday for London, taking Peter back today for his senior year at Penn State. My house was an absolute circus this summer and I will miss it, but I will enjoy less laundry and cooking Going from family of 6 to 4! I hope to see you & Gene soon😘

Now one is living in Philly and the baby is in law school. The chapters continue and they’re all a good read. Now the memories make me smile.
