Hi Neighbors!
A shift is coming to the Main Line! Well, actually, it has already arrived in the form of SHIFT Sustainable Goods + Services, a sustainability conscious store in Narberth. This wonderful gem located in the heart of the borough is educating people about recycling, reusing, and repurposing in an attempt to shift our way of thinking, and ultimately, living.
In theory it sounds simple, and it should be easy. So, how to get started? Gather containers, pick your products, and go!
If you have never been to the store, be prepared for sensory stimulation. The interior resembles a general store with beautiful glass jars filled to the brim displaying colorful powdered detergents and bath salts as well as liquid hand and body soaps. Most items are sold by the ounce except for solids such as bar soaps and deodorant cubes. Customers can bring their own clean, dry containers to fill or purchase reclaimed jars that will add pizazz to your kitchen (the repurposed jars are lovely!).
In addition, the SHIFT offers pop-up and educational events throughout the year ranging from sharpening knives to candle refills to composting, often in conjunction with other small businesses specializing in those skills in and around the area. The other side of the store is dedicated to goods made by other sustainable mercantilists; clothing, jewelry, candles, on a rotating basis.
Owners Kimberley and Eleisha survived the pandemic, celebrating their third anniversary in the environmentally sound space they have created, helping the community to shift their way of thinking for a better future. There is a “we are all in this together” vibe whenever I enter the store; customers asking questions, proprietors taking the opportunity to educate, friendly engagement all around.
The SHIFT website is loaded with good information: products, events, and education towards sustaining a better environment. I suggest visiting the site before the store so you have an idea of what you might need or want on your first in person visit. Or simply show up, meander around, and enjoy the experience!
Shifting into spring,
Jackie
