Birthplace of Revolutionary War hero Major General Anthony Wayne, Historic Waynesborough was the home for seven generations of the Wayne family. The house originally was a 1724 small log cabin situated on 500 acres of farmland and over time evolved into the large Georgian structure that stands today. Young Anthony did not want to be a farmer and a tanner like his father and instead became a surveyor in Nova Scotia for Benjamin Franklin. Wayne made a name for himself by openly opposing the British and making bold tactical maneuvers in the military. Though Wayne died far from home, Waynesborough remained as the family home until 1965, when it was gifted to Easttown Township and has since been in an operating agreement with PhilaLandmarks since 1980.
